Attitudes Gone Awry
Do not expect any man to open a car door for you or hold a door open and let you pass through first unless he is your grandad or dad and that rare gentleman. Social graces. Is that a title of a book you are reading? or are you talking about a girl called Grace who is sociable?. That is the respond i get these days from teenagers and young adults.
Loud voices, almost like shouting matches accompanied sometimes by rude gestures are treated with nonchalance and accepted as normal. The soft spoken aren't heard and would be considered not aggressive enough.
Blaring ringtones of ridiculous songs and sounds and indiscriminate noisy chatter in public places especially in the cinemas and inside a crowded train compartment or packed bus is common everyday occurrences. No one bats an eyelid!.
Overt displays of affection in public among the younger generation has crossed the line of what is acceptable and can be classified as public nuisance. There is a total lack of disrespect and being oblivious to the presence of the elderly and innocently gawking children.
Everyone seeks attention nowadays and most often it is achieved with the support of probably three quarters of the world population. One wonders, what has happened to the human race. Pre schoolers and their teachers doing the "horse dance" because it is the craze?...need i say more?. Apparently, making a fool of oneself and doing it for the whole world to watch is truly fine...for many people.
The more blatant, loud and coarse you are in public, you are applauded and cheered. So what if the sensitivities of some (very small... and growing smaller group) are overlooked?. It's 'hip' to break the rules of etiquette and 'supercool' to use crude language - This is the world in which we live now.
