STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

i penned this piece in 2003 and would like to share it with you as in Malaysia there is a campaign going on till 9th Dec for support to stop violence against women.

UNTITLED

She screamed out her pain and anguish as the physical blow descended her flesh, tears of hurt and humiliation trickled down her face...

The physical blow disappears quickly but the marks it leaves will fade slowly. What remains though...is the deep impact of emotional trauma and mental crippling, burrowing a deep and dark tunnel right into the heart her soul.

The ache she feels in her heart is heavy and her mind cannot help but keep recollecting the foul language and harsh words hurtled at her.

She periodically goes through mood swings, feelings of worthlessness, depression and loses hope!
She sometimes feels only numbness and absolutely empty, not knowing what to do...

Then...
through sheer determination and faith in GOD,she gets up to forge ahead but alas she gets knocked down...again and again and again...
Now she has come to the end of the road of hope, belief and faith.

She swings back and forth between trying yet again or standing up for her rights.

Some stay on out of fear and acceptance...fearful of being stuck with social stigma and being labelled and called a failure, accepting the "fate".
Some take their own lives...sad but true,to hide shame, guilt and failure accepted through social pressure and a weak heart.

Some walk away from the abuse through sheer courage and strength not willing to remain the pawn in a 'deadly' game, refusing to accept anymore verbal, physical, mental and emotional abuse.
Realising that she too deserves happiness and to be treated humanely.
Remembering that she is but only human and deserves respect.
She finally knows that she does not deserve to be hurt through hitting and humiliation...no matter the provocation!.

That she is a child of the universe, deserving of peace, joy and freedom and no one has a right to violate her nor her rights as a human being.
Salute her, cheer her and embrace her because she has the 'spirit' to acknowledge the beautiful soul that she is.

*Dedicated to all women who have been abused during their lifetime in all manner amounting to a violation because she is a woman.
