Unexplainable Malaise

Do you sometimes wake up with dread to face the day? or Maybe feel that everyone and the world is against you?

A friend of mine greeted me two days ago with; "Do you feel out of sorts for no reason sometimes?". It took me a moment to respond for i was feeling just that!, with my monthlies just a week away. What is it with us women?. Hormones; ruling our state of mind and wreaking havoc in our daily lives?

i started experiencing this 'low times' since late last year. i worried that it was abnormal to be in a state of perpetual depression. Then after a couple of months, i realised that it occurred before my menses. Oh gosh, now i've got something else to deal with. It's horrible actually, feeling this malaise....A whole gamut of emotions taking hold at the same time. One minute, you're happily chatting with a girlfriend and the next you're irritated over something petty. Later, you'd be wondering why you lost your cool over it!. Easy to fly off the handle and wanting to seclude yourself are other symptoms. It varies from woman to woman. It's crazy time, i'm telling you.

Talking with friends in my age group and poring over countless articles on how best to deal with the problem have helped alleviate the malaise. It hasn't gone away completely but it beats the blues to a more manageable level.

Keep active - Physical exercise helps,so choose an activity you enjoy; be it pilates, yoga, walking, etc. Looking forward to a fun and creative hobby definitely boost cheer. Laughing out loud is a surefire antidote to feeling great instantly. Last but not least is to stay positive - it does work wonders. It isn't easy to see the bright side when you're not 'feeling' like it but with effort and practise it isn't impossible either.

So, girls when your body is sending signals to your brain to 'bring you down', beat it by bringing yourself up with positive thoughts and attitude. Oh, and do not be hard on yourself.

It's alright to cry... and laugh
It's fine to scream...and go silent
It's normal to feel sad...and feel happy
It's okay to be weird...and be wonderful
It's all part of who you are!
