When Children Are Taught To Hate

A child in all its innocence will shake your hand and give you the sweetest smile. Sometimes even a hug and play with you. A child does not know if you are black, white, brown or yellow. Whether you're young or old, good or bad.

It's a joy to experience this kind of trust and bonding. All changes when a child goes to school or grows up in a household where strong sentiments are discussed openly. Differences are explicitly pointed out, caution and stern reminders about who to be friends with and whom to avoid.

This turns ugly when continuous encouragement to hate and look down on others result in unwanted hurt and avoidable pain. An innocent is caught in the maelstrom of unjust treatment by virtue of his or her belief or the colour of skin. It's very depressing how joy turns sour and a child who hates is taught to do so. There are no choices, simply a decision made by adults.

An old song, played over...once more. i wonder if it will ever end. Let a child be - Teach good values. Don't plant seeds of negative perceptions and soil his or her pure mind with your tainted judgements. Guide not goad a child, for the repercussions aren't easily reversible. Hate is never good, so do not start them young. Be mindful of your words in the presence of children for they listen and absorb like a sponge, accepting them as truth. Show and give love - They will grow up being loving and caring.
