Connecting & Communicating Face To Face Has Become A Chore To Countless Millions

No amount of cajoling and chiding can get a bunch of teenagers to open their mouths and talk. They just sit and wait for answers to be given, expect it fast, no explanations needed or wanted. In the end, they learn nothing. In a Communication Class only the teacher talks; a monologue with voice bouncing off walls in a room of silence. A sarcastic remark will not yield anything either and it isn't always because they are being difficult.

They simply do not know how to communicate face to face. Words intimidate them and carrying on a conversation with another human is as alien as it can get. Sullen faces, stooped shoulders and shuffling feet that indicate boredom, being clueless and distaste for real communication and connecting comfortably is very common these days. Not only among teenagers but a large number of adults too. However, when it's break time and they whip out their gadgets to check emails, updates and what not, there is a glaring transformation. They become animated, enthusiastic and hyper awake, thriving on non sensical alphabets, symbols, emoticons and soundless communication.

Connecting with family and the outside world is a forced activity, often looked upon as a dreaded chore and communicating face to face with real words is frightening and only done in dire situations. Pages have been written by concerned academics, worried parents and wise visionaries are lamenting about the consequences of alienating traditional, true and tested modes of connecting and communication. Sadly, these writings and laments have had no impact on modern society who is more concerned about staying ahead in everything. Say, shout and scream all you want and see if I care is the careless credo these people live by.

Why talk when texting is available?. Why connect face to face when there are more fun ways to do it?. What am I going to talk about with grandpa and grandma anyway?. The tantrums are miles long and the complaining never ceases. Connecting face to face takes time and effort which they aren't willing to sacrifice and make. They couldn't care a less about the art of proper communication nor do they bother about its importance. It is too great a chore and too tedious to pay mind to. Everything is fast, easy and fun, so why subject oneself to something that is slow, hard and boring are the common responses from most people today.

Where is all this heading towards?. Your guess is as good as mine.
