The Meaning Of Life?

'This life is so cruel and I'm really sad',said a thirteen year old's facebook posting. i was disturbed to read it and wondered what could have prompted such profound words from a mere child. At that age, i experienced the ups and downs of adolescence but nothing so deep as to ponder on the meaning of life.

Are children today truly leaving their childhood quickly behind to catch up with this fast paced life?. Are they being exposed to situations and circumstances that make them 'grow old' beyond their biological age?

Amongst my teenage students with ages ranging from twelve to seventeen, it's common to hear laments on the unfair lives they have. They already sound defeated with the rapid changes taking place all around them. Though, there is a small percentage who are oblivious and totally naive to fundamental aspects of life, most are jaded compared to many adults!.

Who is at fault here?. The parents?. The school system?. Social media influence?. The core, which is the family unit, primarily the parents who form the centre play a crucial role. If it is not there, then a child can so easily be influenced by anyone or anything.

A neglected child truly is a sad...and angry person who is forced to grow up on his or her own. To know what is right from wrong or which is good and bad. How will a child know without proper guidance or parental support?. Should not the 'meaning of life' be taught through the love and care of the very givers of life?. As a foundation whereupon the child will have a better foothold to truly experience the highs and lows of life. To confidently and positively navigate through the rough and sail successfully in calm?

Perhaps then a child and teen can appreciate that life through its bumps and valleys is still a wonderful journey. To be lived with a sense of adventure despite its many rough terrains. i can only hope that my words of encouragement bring some solace and support to the thirteen year old.
