Giving Your Two Cents Worth, Is It Worth It?
Giving your two cents worth says it all, doesn't it?. How much can it actually mean?. Do you even know what you are talking about?.
In every country, community and culture, there is always a person who feels compelled to give his or her two cents worth. It is usually done very publicly at weddings, funerals and every other gathering in between. Right now, it is done on social networking sites too. Is it really necessary to comment, criticise, condemn or carelessly say something when it is unnecessary?.
Clearly, people who give their two cents worth like to feel important and enjoy being in the limelight. They feel duty bound to spill out what they believe are sage words to the rest of mankind. A false belief that they are contributing intelligent thoughts and upholding some invisible moral principle which the rest of us cannot see. There are hordes of them desperately hankering for popularity and the one minute fame that their two cents worth give.
Something happens elsewhere and not connected at all to this person but he or she is driven mad to have a say and give the two cents worth. Without investigating the truth of the matter or even knowing the real deal, these individuals are quick to give their opinion. Mostly they say things that are out of context and it comes out sounding completely ludicrous. They like adding information that they scant have knowledge of, thus highlighting the fool they really are.
Why do it in the first place?. The urge to open the mouth and blabber?. The temptation to say words to put someone else down?. In actuality, it is the person who gives his or her two cents worth that ends up the foolish fool.
So, the next time you want to say something and give your two cents worth,it's worth thinking real hard about it first.
" Wise men talk because they have something to say, fools because they have to say something."
- Plato
